We live in one of the most remarkable times in history. Since the ancient era when the biblical texts were first written, there have been two great leaps forward in scriptural understanding amongst ordinary people. The first was around the time of the fifteenth/sixteenth century Renaissance when printing presses with movable type combined with modern language translations to bring the Bible to a wider audience.
The second is occurring NOW as the Internet makes available to everyone information that could previously only be accessed by bible scholars with the time and resources to study. The internet also facilitates the sharing of material between academic disciplines. All of this enables us to know more about what life was like in ancient times and therefore understand better the meaning of the biblical text.
